Xbox launches the Game Pass Starter Edition in collaboration with Meta
Introducing a new subscription model within the third-party ecosystem restricts the reach of the product itself. Xbox has officially unveiled the Game Pass Starter Edition, a more streamlined plan that includes a selection of over 50 games, 10 monthly hours of streaming via Xbox Cloud Gaming, and integration with Microsoft Rewards. The idea is intended to serve as an entryway to the platform by offering major titles alongside indie hits, but it faces a notable obstacle for the general audience: subscribing directly to the service is not an option.
This plan was launched solely as a bonus for those already subscribed to Meta Horizon+, a service targeting Meta Quest virtual reality headsets.
Since it is tied to Meta's platform, the perk is not arriving in Brazil, as Meta Horizon+ does not have official operations in the country.
The list of titles included in the offer features the following selection:
Fallout 4;
Fallout 76;
Grounded;
Overcooked 2;
DayZ;
Deep Rock Galactic;
SnowRunner.
The initiative extends the technical collaboration between Xbox and Meta, which had already enabled the ecosystem app and cloud access on Meta Quest devices. Microsoft has not indicated whether or when it plans to sell this plan independently on consoles, PC, or in other regions worldwide.
Providing an affordable cloud package is an excellent way to attract new consumer profiles, but tying the novelty to a niche accessory and restricting entire territories diminishes the project's potential. Leaving a large segment of gamers out due to rigid corporate agreements turns a potentially positive announcement into a missed chance to expand the brand.
