Sony is working on a mobile version of MLB The Show
Sony Interactive Entertainment is developing a mobile version of MLB The Show, signaling a new expansion strategy for its traditional baseball franchise. The confirmation came through a recent job posting, indicating that the project is underway at San Diego Studio, the team responsible for the series.
The job is for the position of Senior Mobile Product Manager, with a focus exclusively on the title in development. The announcement describes the role as responsible for collaborating with design, production, marketing, data analysis, and other areas, with the aim of turning the mobile game into a high-level experience.
"As Senior Product Manager of MLB The Show Mobile, you will partner with Design, Production, Marketing, Data and Analytics, and many other disciplines to drive new product features and optimize existing ones to make MLB The Show Mobile an amazing game!"
This is the first official confirmation that MLB The Show Mobile is in production, after months of rumors without a company statement. Although there is still no release date, confirmed platforms, or announced monetization model, the move is consistent with Sony's recent strategy, which has signaled its intention to expand its presence in the mobile sector.
The initiative follows the trend seen in other industry titles. In recent years, companies like Activision (with Call of Duty Mobile) and Electronic Arts (with mobile versions of FIFA and Apex Legends) have sought to bring their major franchises to mobile devices to expand reach and revenue. Sony, on the other hand, had already created the PlayStation Studios Mobile division in 2022, precisely to lead this type of initiative.
The announcement of the mobile version comes shortly after the release of MLB The Show 25, which hit the market on March 18, 2025 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Like in previous editions since 2021, the game was multiplatform, also including Xbox Game Pass at launch, indicating a more flexible distribution policy regarding Sony's sports intellectual properties.
Although the franchise's technical quality is recognized on consoles—especially for its realism and fidelity to Major League Baseball (MLB) rules—the adaptation to mobile devices will bring new challenges. Factors such as touch-adapted interface, graphic optimization, reduced game modes, and the possible implementation of microtransactions, almost a standard element in the current mobile market, need to be considered.
If the release follows the competitors' model, we can expect a version with asynchronous PvP modes, collectible player cards, an in-game store, and integration with console accounts. However, none of these features have been confirmed so far.
