EA Sports FC 27 receives the Ultimate Plus edition for 160 euros

Charging exorbitant prices by relying solely on the delivery of digital assets and virtual currencies reveals the greedy appetite with which certain publishers treat their audience. Electronic Arts announced the arrival of the new EA Sports FC 27; nevertheless, the highlight of the announcement was completely overshadowed by this year's pricing chart. The company decided to release three different versions of the game, led by the new Ultimate Plus Edition, which marks the most expensive game in the distributor's history, being sold for a staggering 159.99 euros.

This amount is exactly twice the price of the basic edition, which is priced at 79.99 euros, with the added issue that the complete package is only available until August 31.

To justify the price charged for the top-tier version, EA bundled benefits that include Career Mode and Ultimate Team. The list features:

10,000 FC Points, distributed over five months.

Premium Passes for Seasons 1 to 5.

Up to 7 days early access to the game.

An Icon player with an overall rating above 85 for the Ultimate Team.

A "Hall of FUT" player pick.

An additional Player Evolution slot.

3 Icon or Hero players for Career Mode.

A Player Evolution to be used in the current EA Sports FC 26.

A mid-tier alternative will also hit the shelves: the Deluxe Edition costs 109.99 euros — 50 euros cheaper —, granting access to the Premium Pass for just the first season and a reduced bundle of 6,000 FC Points over three months.

The format resembles the strategy used for the MVP Bundle+ in College Football 27 and Madden 27, with the difference that the earlier bundle provided two complete games for the same price, not just a single title.

Pushing temporary content in passes and coins under such an aggressive price tag strains the relationship with sports fans. Rather than focusing investments on the genuine enhancement of the graphics engine or field dynamics, choosing to set a price cap of 160 euros directly impacts the wallets of those who just want to enjoy virtual football without being squeezed by microtransactions.
